A brief guide to active living and workload management - Filing

This means being in control of your environment and freeing up your mind from worrying
about what you have to do next. In this way you can work more quickly and efficiently
than you have before, saving precious time and effort. Filing is not just about the
paperwork - it is about electronic files too (including your email in box.). The easiest
way to get your filing into shape is to differentiate between action filing and archive filing.

Action filing refers to those things you need to hand every day (e.g your current projects, frequently used directories and so on.) Archive filling refers to items that you only need access to once in a while (e.g. reference material, completed projects, legal/financial records.) Tackle large piles of clutter one piece at a time, decide whether it is action
or archive and put it away appropriately.) You do not need to keep tasks in your mind
as they will be in your schedule. (See A = Allocating).
